Creativity is an important part of who I am. I enjoy being able to express myself creatively, whether it be through mosaics, knitting, painting, cooking, gardening, or whatever. It’s coming up with the design that excites me the most. How will I create contrast? Should it be curved or straight? Small or big? I find it hard to stick to a pattern – I want to add my own ideas. It doesn’t always work out – sometimes I wish I had just stuck to the tried and true. But that would be boring!!
About a year before J1 died, I designed and completed my first mosaic stepping stone. One month later, and I thought it might be a good idea to do a mosaic portrait of my eldest daughter. Not an easy task for a novice “mosaicer”!!
But I’m so glad I gave it a go. Today it hangs in our dining room as another reminder of our precious daughter.

I must confess however, that my creative output at the moment is pretty pathetic. Months go by with nothing produced. I guess life gets busy, you get preoccupied, more “important” things take priority…I am eager to explore and extend my interest in creativity and hopefully this will be seen as I post pictures on my blog…

Looking forward to see this category grow!

I am soo impressed that you get to do crafts. I’m jealous. I have to say that it would be very hard for me to be able to be creative with my son around. He is now very much able to reach the top of the table and loves things that spin….or can be spun. So beads, thread, balls of yarn, etc could be gone in the wink of the eye. I love your work…gorgeous!!!

Thanks FXSmom. I have to say tho, that I don’t get to be creative when my son is around either. At 13 he is well and truely reaching table tops, loves to grab things, spin things (he’s on the autistic spectrum) and put things in his mouth. Most of my “creating” happens either when he’s at school or at night when he’s in bed. Hence, not a lot of creating happens!!!!
Thanks for your encouragement. Am wanting to do a bit more mosaicing in the near future. Will keep you posted via the blog.
