Health

I believe that having a balanced life is so important.  It’s easy for one part of life to completely take over.  It might be work, it might be family, it might be something else.

I know we can’t compartmentalise life, but for the sake of simplicity let’s do it anyway!!

  • spiritual
  • emotional
  • physical
  • intellectual
  • social

Ok, it’s not a perfect model.  Many components overlap, some completely filter through the whole lot.  But it can be a handy tool.  How much time or money do I spend tending to each of these areas?

If you are anything like me, by focussing in on one, something else goes on the back burner.  Life is a bit of a juggling act.

Personally, I have discovered the importance of physical fitness.  It is a great de-stressor.  Ten years ago I was totally unfit.  My husband and I began walking together regularly, then running.  It gave us both such a psychological and emotional boost.  We entered an 11km fun-run together which gave us something to really aim for and enjoy participating in.  Sometimes I have let my fitness go, which is very disappointing, but I always pick it up again.

At the moment I attend a women’s gym regularly, so am able to do resistance training as well as some cardio.  I recommend it for all of you stressed people out there!!  I would like to do more cardio than current so that I can build up to doing Fun Runs again.  Keep me accountable!
